Alpena Flour Mills
Built in 1914, it's the Only remaining flour mill within Alpena County This gambrel roof structure housed a prosperous mill until 1956 Much of the remaining equipment, chutes and bagging stations are still in place Its presently the workshop and showroom of the Bayviewer Chair Co, makers of cedar outdoor wood furniture. Besser Natural Area
One-mile foot trail, through an area formerly inhabited by the people of the Village of Bell. Some remains of buildings, a virgin stand of white pine trees, a lagoon and beautiful beach. Located 14 miles north of Alpena.

Chippewa Hills Pathway
Located 20 miles southwest of Alpena and offers a more challenging terrain for beginner through advanced skiers. Over 14 miles of hilly, heavily wooded terrain await you on this trail – great cross county skiing available here.

Dinosaur Gardens Prehistoric Zoo
Open May 15 - September 30 10am - 6pm, 7 days a week. Features life-size reproductions of over twenty-five prehistoric birds and animals, and an 80-foot long, 60,000-pound Brontosaurus, an 18-hole mini-golf course and a snack bar. Along Alpena’s shoreline offers beach volleyball courts, tennis, children's play areas, and a picnic area During the summer months, a pavilion is available for special evenings of fun and is used in winter as an indoor ice rink and an outdoor ice rink is also available. McRae Park, at the end of Second Avenue features ball fields, basketball courts, tennis courts and a children's play area.

Mysterious Negwegon State Park
This State Park is one of the least developed in Michigan's park system Be prepared for the undeveloped road leading into the park. Located on US 23, 12 miles north of Harrisville.

North Riverfront Park

Norway Ridge
Located five miles south of Alpena, featuring 10 miles of forgiving, groomed terrain for beginning to intermediate cross-country skiers.

Park and Wildlife Sanctuary
Located within the city limits at the corner of US 23 and Long Rapids Road. Island Park and the park sanctuary boast scores of plant and bird species. You can explore the sanctuary area by water following the Blue Heron Canoe Water Trail Feeding residential geese, ducks, seagulls and pigeons is prohibited in the City of Alpena and is punishable by a fine of up to $500 While many of our feathered residents have turned panhandling into an art form, you don't need to feel guilty for denying them a hand-out.

Partridge Point Wetlands
Experience and learn about coastal wetlands as you take a self-guided tour of nature while you stroll on a boardwalk. Open dawn to dusk (May 1 - October 31).

The Alpena Ligh
The only lighthouse on Alpena's coastline is a skeletal structure called "The Alpena Light." Best viewed from the transient docks at the Alpena City Harbor, this oft' ignored beacon is also called "Lil' Red."

Thompson's Harbor State Park
Located 26 miles north of Alpena along the shores of Lake Huron is one of Michigan's newest State Parks Encompassing over 5,000 acres of undeveloped beach dunes, upland and marsh, it includes unique areas of Lake Huron sand dunes and is home to the Dwarf Lake Iris, a rare and endangered plant. Three trails ranging from 14 miles to 26 miles are available. Parking is available at the trailhead off of US 23 North
