Higgins Lake State Park
This State Park was originally a state forest campground, established in the mid-1920s. The State Parks Division took over the area in 1963 and established North Higgins as a state park. The 429-acre park currently occupies land that was formerly the Higgins Lake Nursery. The park has over eight miles of marked multiple-use trails that wind through the mixed hardwoods that make up the mature wooded area. They cross over moderate hills and flatlands. Motorized vehicles are not permitted, however, all kinds of bikes are allowed. These trails are groomed for cross-country skiing in the winter. The Park is also a wonderful destination for summer swimmers. The shallow lakefront provides the perfect environment for families with young children. The beachfront is located directly south of the campgrounds. It has ample shade down to the water's edge and a fine sandy beach for sunbathers, playground equipment, a picnic shelter, a park store, and a sand volleyball court.
