Marquette Maritime Museum
Marquette Maritime Museum is at 300 Lakeshore Blvd. Displays in an 1890s water works building describe the maritime heritage of Marquette and Lake Superior. A film is shown. Dockside offices of Marquette's first commercial fishing and passenger freight companies are re-created; a fishing shanty contains sport fishing gear. Michigan Iron Industry Museum
The Michigan Iron Industry Museum is 3 mi. e. off US 41E to Maas St., then n. to 73 Forge Rd. Forested ravines of the Marquette Iron Range provide the setting for this museum overlooking the Carp River and the site of the first iron forge in the Lake Superior region. Through exhibits, audiovisual programs and interpretive outdoor trails, the museum presents the history of Michigan's iron ranges from its geologic origins through the 20th century and showcases the people who worked them. “The Yankee”—an 1860s vertical boiler locomotive from the Jackson Mine—as well as underground mine cars, mining equipment and artifacts also are displayed. Presque Isle Park
Presque Isle Park is n. of the city at the end of Lakeshore Blvd. This 328-acre wooded peninsula juts into Lake Superior. The park offers picnic facilities and rock hunting; facilities include an outdoor pool with a waterslide. Nature trails wind throughout the park and are used for bog walks in the summer and snowshoeing and cross-country skiing in winter. Call (906) 228-0460 for more information.

The Upper Peninsula Children's Museum

U.S. National Ski and Snowboarding Hall of Fame and Museum
The U.S. National Ski and Snowboarding Hall of Fame and Museum is on US 41 between Second and Third sts. at 610 Palms Ave. The greats of American skiing are honored here. The development of the sport is shown through photographs, antique grooming equipment, a cable car, trophies and other memorabilia. An 18-minute orientation videotape also is available.
