Things to do in New Buffalo

Lakefront Park
New Buffalo is the gateway to southwest Michigan and offers visitors an outstanding beach along the shore of Lake Michigan. Our public beach is within walking distance of downtown New Buffalo and located adjacent to the busy outlet of the Galien River and near the harbor. The swimming area is more protected from the boating traffic than it at first seems, and the public beach is longer and more natural than first impressions suggest. There are restrooms, a refreshment stand, small play area for children, a dune stairway and longish overlook and boardwalk atop the dunes. The big event of the year is the Ship and Shore Festival sponsored by the New Buffalo Lions Club and the Lions Club has its headquarters at the park pavillion. This two-day event includes arts & crafts, entertainment and a variety of food to satisfy the culinary tastes of many.

Warren Dunes State Park
The magnificent sand dunes for which this park is named were formed thousands of years ago by receding glaciers scraping continental bedrock. Scoured by the ice and eroded by wind and water, the rock was reduced to sand grains. Today some of the dunes tower 240 feet above Lake Michigan and they work their magic on hikers and hang gliders. Mount Randall, in particular, offers spectacular views of the lake and countryside. Randall is a dune in motion, it is slowly creeping eastward because winds and foot traffic keep vegetation from taking hold. Call 616-426-4013 for more information.
