Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History
Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History is at 315 E. Warren Ave. The featured exhibit, And Still We Rise: Our Journey Through African American History and Culture, includes nearly 100 mannequins in re-creations of such scenes as a slave ship, a slave auction and living quarters from a rice plantation. Detroit Science Center
Detroit Science Center is at 5020 John R. St. at Warren Ave. in the midtown cultural center. The center features more than 200 hands-on exhibits, an IMAX dome theater and a planetarium. Live science programs are presented on the Science Stage, and electrical demonstrations are the focus in the Sparks Theater. Motown Historical Museum
Motown Historical Museum is at 2648 W. Grand Blvd. The Motown sound of the early 1960s originated in this old brick house that is now home to the museum. Such entertainers as Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson, Diana Ross and the Supremes, and Stevie Wonder got their starts here under the direction of Motown Records founder Berry Gordy Jr. The galleries contain a variety of musical instruments, photographs, artifacts and the original Studio A and control room. The Henry Ford
The Henry Ford is at 20900 Oakwood Blvd. This five-venue complex commemorates 300 years of the American experience through exhibits, tours, programs and special events. Henry Ford Museum celebrates American innovative genius. National treasures include the Rosa Parks bus, presidential limousines, the chair in which Abraham Lincoln was assassinated and a folding camp bed used by George Washington. The museum includes permanent and temporary touring exhibits. In Greenfield Village more than 90 acres include nine historic districts with buildings of historic significance. Vintage transportation, skilled artisans and costumed presenters can be seen daily. Important sites include the Ford Birthplace, Wright Cycle Shop and Noah Webster House.
